So you've made the decision to become a webcam model? Great! It's not a job for everybody, but if you can hack the world of webcam modeling, you'll quickly find it is a very lucrative job. A good webcam model can easily make in 30 minutes what working in an office, flipping burgers, or driving for you favorite ride share company, can make in several hours. 

You won't be making the big bucks overnight. Sorry to say. It's a good, long slog to the top of the webcam model profession. You've got to build up a following before you'll be raking in the big bucks. But, we're pretty confident that anybody can get there with some determination. Yes. Anybody. But you've got to start somewhere. That's why we've put together this guide, to teach you exactly how to become a webcam model.

Who Can Become a Webcam Model?

 People seem to have the belief that if you want to become a webcam model, you've got to be drop-dead gorgeous, have a massive dick, or huge knockers. You don't. While 'conventionally' attractive people can make cash as webcam models, they're a dime a dozen in the webcam world, and not everybody is looking for them.

We promise you that no matter what you look like there is somebody out there on the various webcam sites that is willing to part with their cash to watch you. We seriously mean that. Everybody has a type and you're somebody's type. In fact, if you're unique enough, you'll probably find it easier to reel in the punters than a more conventionally attractive person.

Well, OK. That was somewhat of a lie. Not everybody can become a webcam model. While it is true that it doesn't really matter what you look like (any look can make this gig work), you do need to have the right personality:

1. Outgoing: as a webcam model, you're a salesperson. You're selling yourself. You need to talk. You need to convince people to spend their cash on you. Webcam models make cash by building up a connection with their viewers. They'll get to know the ones that spend massive amounts of cash, they'll need to talk dirty, and they need to be entertaining. We don't think we've ever seen a successful webcam model that is silent. The look of your body ain't enough. If you're not outgoing, or can't force yourself to be, there is no money in this game for you. 
2. Confidence: you probably knew this already, but being a webcam model isn't just about sitting around on camera looking stunning. You're going to need to get your kit off. You're probably going to need to do some pretty filthy things on camera too (stripping, masturbation, etc.). You're exposing yourself to the whole world. While it does get a bit easier over time, it is still a tough old gig. It is necessary to make money, though.
3. Grit: people are going to say awful things to you. They'll basically be objectifying you every time you're streaming. Even if you set boundaries (please set boundaries), people will do it. This is probably the hardest part of streaming. There are times that you'll be pushed to the absolute limit. If you can't handle what people say, this might not be the job for you. 
4. Determination: even with the best webcam model site in the world, you're not going to make money overnight. If you do a good job streaming the first day, you might pull in a few dollars. That's it. If you want to make huge amounts of cash, you need to do this job every day. You need to forge connections with your punters. You need to stream without making money for long periods of time. Only the fittest survive. However, if you can ride it out, we're confident you'll make a good chunk of change.

Still with us? Great! If you're confident you want to dabble in webcam streaming, you need a site for it. If you'd started modeling a decade or so ago, you would have been limited to just a couple of sites. However, the cam streaming world has expanded massively since then. This means that there are dozens of potential sites for you to get your groove on at. But, let's be honest, not all of them are great.

Our goal is to point you toward the top cam sites in the world. The ones where you'll make the most money. The ones where all the potential spenders are hanging out. So, let's share a few top cam sites with you (the ones we use), and give you some tips on signing up.

Early on in your webcam career, you're going to need to choose where to stream. Now, there is no rule that says you need to limit yourself to one site. You can experiment with various websites to see which one makes you the most cash (it'll be different for everybody) but, eventually, if you want to make oodles of cash, you'll need to be spending your time on just one site. This way, you can cultivate a relationship with your clients and, hopefully, use your personality (and your body) to have them part with their cash. 

As we said, there are dozens and dozens of sites out there. We've gone through them, and we reckon the best ones are:

• Chaturbate: one of the best sites for newbies to the game. Chaturbate can see a little crowded at times, but there are always viewers willing to part with their cash for new models they stumble across. 
• Cam Soda: a slightly smaller site, but one that is rapidly growing. You'll find it easier to climb to the top of the pack at Cam Soda and, hopefully, when the viewers roll in, you'll be the first name they see when they are willing to crack open their wallet. 
• Bonga Cams: if you're an Eastern European, this might be the best site for you. For some reason, Bonga Cams has become the go-to for Eastern European streamers, and so that's where you'll find your viewers. 
• Strip Chat: while it's not the largest cam streaming platform in the world, but many that work with Strip Chat say that the support is top notch, and they've found some of the nicest clients there. 
• Live Jasmin: might not be the best site for newbies, but once you've got some skin in the game, Live Jasmin is great. It allows you to quickly set up private shows, and you can make a lot of cash there. You might want to hold back on Live Jasmin until you've built up a following elsewhere. 

Signing Up 

Signing up to the cam sites is a doddle. See that list above? Hit any of those links and you'll be taken directly to the sign up form. You could have a cam streaming account in mere seconds! Although, there are a few things you want to think about when making your account.

Your Username 

Your cam streaming username will become your identity online. While you can have anything (as long as it isn't taken), we've got a few golden rules that you should probably follow:

• The name should be catchy. It needs to be memorable. It is what people will call you online, and it is the name they'll associate with who you are. Think long and hard about something that is descriptive of you. The shorter, and sweeter, the better. 
• Don't choose a name that has anything identifying about you in it. There are some odd people online, and they'll cling to anything in the hope of tracking your real identity down. So, no real names. No locations. No pet names. Nothing. 

Age Verification 

Obviously, cam sites don't want minors streaming there. So, before you can stream for the first time, you'll be asked to identify your age. This will normally involve sending pics of some sort of ID, like your passport or driver's license, through the secure online system. Don't worry. Use one of the sites above and you'll be perfectly safe. 

The Importance of your Profile

Your profile is the most important part of the signup process. Your profile will be the first opportunity people get to know who you are. You need to make it pop. If you're serious about cam mode streaming, it might be wit hiring a professional writer a little later on down the line to put together your profile for you. For now, as long as you have a reasonable command of language, you can do it yourself. Think about the following:

• Your profile should describe who you are. Tell people what you can offer them. Mention your body type, race, age, etc. Once again, don't share anything too personal. You don't want people to track you down IRL. It's fine to give a general idea of your location (including city, if you live somewhere big). 
• Say what you're willing to do on camera. If you've got boundaries, share them. You don't want people begging for something that you'll never do in a million years. 
• Share when you're streaming. You want to be streaming at a regular time, so your punters know when you're going to be online. 
• Share high quality photos/videos of you. Nothing from social media. Take decent photos purely for your profile. Show people what they're going to get when they watch you. Some cam sites have rules about the media you can put on your profile. Follow them.

You will want to make the profile read nice and flirtatious. Let your personality shine through. It works. Don't make everything too sterile. Be yourself. Even if you're not the greatest writer in the world, being yourself really works wonders.

How to Run Your Webcam Business

Yes. This is a business. You've got no hope of being a top webcam model unless you treat this like a business. This means proper promotion. Proper handling of your cash (yes, you'll need to pay tax), and always working hard to grow your viewers.

Twitter/X Promotion

Most new cam models fail at the first hurdle. They don't have a clue how to promote themselves. They think that sitting on cam is enough to catch the viewers. It's not.
